Closed for Renovations: Day 1

Today is a strange day at Providence Children's Museum - closed for eight weeks! We're starting this blog to give everyone a behind-the-scenes look at the extensive changes that are happening here over the next two months as we gear up for the opening of our major new exhibit, Play Power, on October 28. We'll post updates and photos about two times a week, as we're missing the sounds of little feet scampering through the exhibits...

Our renovations actually began last week, when masons started the work of repointing the brickwork along Parsonage Street. The work will continue around the rest of the building over the next few weeks - and we'll somehow have to get use to the constant hum of their drilling!

Today brought a flurry of activity, in preparation for the window replacement that begins next week. We're replacing all 70 exterior windows. To do so, everything in front of or near a window must be moved out at least three feet. Which means:

And moving exhibit components away from the windows, beginning in Water Ways.


Don't worry, we plan to put everything back exactly where we found it! We also began deinstalling Pets & People to make room for Play Power today. More to come...
